Driving across country, I picked up Chris in Bristol on the way, stopping only for a much needed coffee late into the evening. By the time we found ourselves deep in the Welsh countryside it was pitch black. A thick fog had kindly descended forcing us to navigate the steep roads at a much slower speed. This would have been fine if the petrol tank wasn’t almost empty.. but despite half an hour of intense driving we made it to the site. We quickly found where to park my van and where Chris could sleep, mumbled goodnights and quickly drifted into unconsciousness.
I woke, early, to a cold van, threatened by the soft rain pressing at the windows wanting to come in. I dressed for site, stretched and made my way down to the caravans for breakfast to find Chris and Julie already making coffee.
An unassuming morning before starting lime rendering on a straw bale ‘long house’ but for us it was the morning of our first job as Hawkland Ecological Construction.
